Trondheim, Norway may seem out of the way, further North than Bergen. However, it turns out there are three Starbucks locations here, so how far out of the way can it really be? This area has been settled for over one thousand years and it is where the Monarchs who ruled Norway would go for their coronation at Nidaros Cathedral. Norway still is a constitutional monarchy, but no longer holds coronations. Instead, they now hold benedictions. Adjacent to the Cathedral, one can visit the Norwegian Crown Jewels. The sword part of the crown regalia was actually a gift from Napoleon, a sword he used in battle. The older part of the town is reminiscent of an old fishing village, colored as though painted by an artist for a postcard, placed alongside a calm river. It definitely does not strike me as one of the more populated regions of Norway.

At my hostel, I made friends from four different continents: South America, North America, Africa, and Europe. A few were students studying abroad taking a long weekend, some were on business, and others were like me, just traveling through. It was stimulating comparing and contrasting the various ways life unfolds around the globe.

I have now made my way to Sweden. For my next few cities, I will be at hotels to focus on my coursework.
