I made an 18-hour train journey from Luleå, Sweden to Gothenburg, Sweden. Gothenburg is where Volvo has been headquartered since it began producing cars in 1927. Today, Volvo also runs a museum to commemorate its history. The exhibitions celebrate the core values of Volvo: safety, quality, and environmental care. It has many models on display that represent the decades Volvo has been in business, including a car from its first production. Did you know that the very car you drive or ride in has a Volvo innovation? Volvo invented the three-point seat belt, found in every passenger car today. It is said to save over 11,000 lives a year in the United States alone and it is estimated to have saved over a million lives worldwide since inception. Volvo was the first car manufacturer to include an oxygen sensor in its vehicles to help regulate emissions, now industry standard. The next ambitious project Volvo has undertaken is to have a zero fatality rate in its vehicles by 2020.
